BGG 2018 part II
BGG is a friendly convention and some of the best times are with random chance strangers. A couple guys passed us as we were opening up Heaven & Ale and joined us for a game.
A little too long for my usual game night, but nicely thought out. Go around the board to pick tasks, so there is some competition in one area
but everyone manages their own fields so not completely cut throat. You can end up with quite different strategies.
Final boards have a nice mix of resources. I did well, but not sure exactly how-lol!
Relatively fast, lightly puzzle-y. I was maybe too tired to have it sink in.
Competing for the candy (little wooden pieces-cute!) to fulfill orders...seems to be luck dependent, but you have to carefully evaluate which orders to abandon. I don't love the art, but would play it in a different printing.
Another fast 2 player, not quite as memorable as pinata, but better art.
Great large group, risk taking game. I am pretty bad-I don't take enough risks to win, but who doesn't love rolling the 30-sided die :)
Race your car around the track-burn the brakes, shred the tires and destroy the transmission just enough to not completely destroy the car.
Kind of cool new holder to keep track of what gear you are in and how beat up your car gets.
Lets build parks for bears!
Using fancy tetris shapes-yeah!! Right up my alley. Super cute!
Patchwork regular is one of my favorite 2-player games so had to try this express version.
Cute, not really necessary if you already have the regular version, maybe a bit shorter for younger players.
Seems like a cute theme and the pieces are delightful
but the play is brutal! Interesting twist is that you are cooperate with a team mate-best for 2 or 4 players.
I picked this up for the beautiful art
and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of strategy. The theme works so well. You, the koi, compete for dinner but are affected by the weather and currents. Want to play again!
Can't miss this one!
Vul-kar!!! This year there was a new printing that included improved game play...but at the convention I have to play the old school version.
Another game I picked because of the art.
Turned into a fascinating play through. Plenty of competition for your spot on the tree, so trying to guess what everyone else is doing in huge. The economist in our group played randomly...and duplicated my plays 90% of the time! The 10% was critical though and I won decisively!
With these adorable meeples! I think folks will either love or hate this one!
Hmm. High replay value because of the randomization. Not sure I completely grasped how to win.
Hot game!
Cute! Squishy berries!
Cute but fiddly! How well the game goes seems to depend on the initial draw...we actually restarted because the first was a poor start. Likely too long for usual game night, but willing to try again next year.
Last day-just before heading home. Our brains are tired, we can only play short/known games.
Love Ticket to Ride-this is the shortest version ever and well themed. I can't justify purchasing it, but I might anyway.
Unique rules/cards for bidding. Too much to fully comprehend at the end of the convention, willing to try again with a larger group.
Because it has shrunken heads-lol!
I am attracted to odd Japanese games, what can I say?!
This one is totally a party game-sound the cards out loud and follow the rules-other players call you out if you get it wrong. So unusual!!
Another 'roll and write'
Looking like Dig Dug!! Not quite as strategic as the others, but cute.
Final 'roll and write'!!
Plan the roads and rails for the town! This one was so good we bought it :)
OMG Such a good week-can't wait for next year!
