Ocean, April 2023

 Monterey Bay aquarium

Cousin Steve had never been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so that was a top priority this time.  As always, a great day.

We learned that the aquarium grows moon jellies to 1. Put into exhibits, 2. Use for in house research and 3. To feed to the other jellyfish that is an obligate jellyfish-ivore!!

Everyone loves the jellies.

Such a nice view

I can watch these guys forever.  One sardine decided to go against the flow and never turn around.  Sometimes another would join, but only for a few seconds before getting back into the flow.

We watched the feeding in the kelp forest.

I've never seen these guys before-love finding a new thing :)

Monterey bay
From our previous visit, this whimsical art (or bike rack? both?)

Ocean rainbow!

Moss Beach
We took another day at the ocean to wander on a beach.

Maverick's, where they hold the famous surfing competition when the weather permits.

In the bay is an abandoned boat.  Turns out that it has been a problem for a couple of years.  Basically it was not in good shape, came into the harbor and was abandoned.  Ugh.

Amazing lunch at the Moss Beach Distillery, which has quite the colorful history.
