NYC, opera, Hamilton, May 2019

NYC  May 2019

Fantastic weekend in NYC, started as just 2 of us, but turned into 6!  We did a great job breaking up into groups as needed and had a very musical weekend.

OMG I love these cards!  The book cover of an opera if it were classic pulp.  Purchased at the Metropolitan Opera gift shop.

Green-eyed Girl and I have been watching the met opera at the movie theaters for the last few years and finally found one we wanted to see in person.  Dialogues des Carmelites is tragedy, 90% of the cast is dead at the end.  GREAT decision to see it in person. Staging at the Met is the ultimate.

Would have been fun to see Valkyrie, maybe next time!

Lincoln Center!!

Of course we got ourselves fancy intermission drinks.  Had a fantastic time seeing it in person.  Next up La Scala?

In the evening we all went to Hamilton!  Yes, it is as good as they say.  If you get a chance to see it, listen to the songs first and read a bit of the history.

Of course our trip was even better because we got to see my friend James who played Lafayette/Jefferson!  He won the Tony for being the genie in Aladdin!   Still the most famous person I know

He will only get more famous because now he is writing too!

Getting really into the spirit, we drank Hamilton wine,

and visited his statue in Central Park!

The food situation during this trip was AMAZING.
Totto Ramen for Friday dinner.  Chicken broth for ramen, then all the add-ons.  So good!

Fancy Hamilton drinks

Small plates, charcuterie, cheese (so good!) paired with wines.  Our group was having such a good time we were on the border of being obnoxious since the place was small...but one couple on leaving said they wish they were with our group, so someone enjoyed our antics.

On Sunday we went to the Metropolitan Art Museum, had to stop for lunch in the mall at the subway and found this clever version of chicken (nuggets) and waffles (cone).

with cute juice!
Turns out that since it was raining half the city had the same idea we did, so after train and walking in the rain, we gave up and went back to the apartment to hang out.  Had a great evening watching the Game of Thrones ending with the local neighbor-lol!

E and I had one extra day and checked out a smaller play.  Total slap-stick, physical humor.  The type that is extra hard because you have to have the timing right to make it look like it is all wrong.
