We took the train from NYC to Montreal. Great idea, takes the whole day, but you have lovely scenery and way more relaxing than flying.
Construction materials along the Hudson river. Later in the trip Lake Champlain is on the other side of the train. It is a little grey and rainy, we we were cosy and warm.
Trees are just beginning to pop out their leaves.
What do you have to eat if you are in Canada? Poutine! This is from a Portuguese chicken place. OMG so good!
Across from the Botanical Gardens - I think this is a private front yard?!?
Wow!
Most public art I see is pretty boring.
But this is complex enough to be interesting, not overly fussy and seems relevant to the space it is in.
So is this! Part of the story is about the river. It is not so generic you can just place it anywhere.
They got a really good blue on the concrete.
Out and about in the parks I got fascinated by the graffiti.
And the lumpy trees. Our group speculated about dragons sleeping in this tree.
Day trip to Ile Sainte Helene
Helene is the island with the dome surrounded by park.
Helene is the island with the dome surrounded by park.
About a third of the island was under construction. We grabbed rental bikes and saw what we could. Very green and quiet, bet it is packed on summer weekends.
Great view of downtown. We rented bikes in the downtown area and bumped and joggled our way over the cobblestones down the hill. Do not recommend! Stick to the waterfront!
Local cemetery
Quaint bridges.
Biosphere (not to be confused with the Biodome, which is at the botanical garden). The Buckminster Fuller structure was the US pavilion in the 1967 Expo. E and I snuck onto the site back in the 90s when it was under renovation. This time it was enough to just see it. I find it satisfying and beautiful.
Final bit of delicious food
French Onion soup at the local creperie.
