Epic Games: Gloomhaven and MegaCiv

Epic Games:  Gloomhaven and MegaCiv

Gloomhaven
We have a group that started Gloomhaven.  It is a giant game;  the box weighs over 20 pounds, there are about 100 scenarios to be played, each scenario takes at least a few hours, your choices cut off other choices, and many parts are hidden until instructions tell you to open an box.

Symbols for the different roles you play.

A peak inside the box

To keep track of where you are in the scenarios.  I also have a small log book where I am writing down what we do as a group and what happened to us.

The map!  One of the best parts.  Our group only gets together about once a month and we only get through one scenario.  Started in the beginning of 2019.  We hope to be done in 2025.  Not even kidding!

I'm the spellweaver.  I do best if I stand back from the bad guys and fire long range attacks, but sometimes you just have to get up close.

All the info for my role.  Yes, it is kind of complicated.

What it looks like with everyone on the board.  The game is pretty great.  There are of course a few things we would improve about the documentation, but overall very satisfying.  We hope to retire some of our characters soon.  Then we get to open new boxes!

MegaCiv
We get to play MegaCiv every few years.  A friend owns the game and managed to get a group of us in Dec 2019.  It plays up to 18 people and takes a minimum of 12 hours.  It is super hard to get people for a whole weekend, so it is generally one long day.  (In the foreground is our Christmas tree with lobster topper)

Each player is in charge of a civilization and geographic area.  There is some fighting, but the key to winning is trade.  We put together our biggest tables and were able to fit 15 people around the map.

There is one more panel for the map, and since we only needed a bit of it, hand drew that addition.

Didn't need the Celts so we just covered the map..a couple of the civs are ready to be set-up.

Grabbed this photo of the game in progress just moments before

This Bad Cat!  leaped onto the Mediterranean and messed up pieces.  Somehow it was mostly in place and we recovered quickly.

We didn't finish, but came close!  An epic time was had by all!
