All cats all the time!

All cats all the time!  early 2020

There have not been enough of our cats on the blog!
Matching cats

Turkey feather gifted to the cats from a friend.  It is huge and they love to lick it.

Spock also likes to hunt it.

Success!

Mr. Darcy is dubious

Harumph

Spock is adorable.  He is always looking for a way to get higher up

even if it is just on your shoulders.

The many sleeping positions of Mr. Darcy

Spock will climb the new cat tree!

He he!  Not a problem apparently.

Time to fight!

The outdoors fascinates me.

France, all the cathedrals, June 2019

France, all the cathedrals (and churches), June 2019

It feel a little like an assignment, but compare and contrast all the churches and cathedrals that we saw.
Lille
Important church, inconsistent architecture.

Not built early enough to get it done without substantial changes.

Traditional outside

Non-traditional front

More interesting than stained glass for me.

Many niches for the saints

Amiens
Driving school around the corner from the cathedral

Very traditional cathedral, great example of everything you expect.

Intricate carved details

Gorgeous interior columns

All stained glass

Truly ginormous organ

Fancy floors

Le Havre
Totally modern

The light into the church through the stained glass is super lovely.  It changes throughout the day.

Bayeux
I didn't take pics or go in, but did buy one postcard

Rouen
Joan of Arc memorial outside the modern church.

The church is supposed to look a little like flames and also an overturned boat.  It incorporates a few market stands at one end so it was quite busy.

Super funky water spout design.  Reminds me of a dragon?  So kind of an homage to gargoyles?

Patterns in French churches, June 2019

Patterns in French churches, June 2019

This post is a bit scattershot as it only looks at interesting patterns in the French churches we visited.  There is a whole other post just on the churches.
Lille
A bit strange looking at first.  Seems like there might be scaffolding on the front.  Turns out to be modern and because they ran out of money got creative.

From the inside I don't even care about the stained glass, what I'm loving is the thinly sliced marble, making the whole area translucent.  Wow.

Not enough money for full on stained glass but I like the simplicity.

Lovely patterns.

Amiens has a traditional cathedral.

Different tile patterns in each area!
Center labrinth!
Sorry for the glare-could not find an angle without it :(

Individually I love them, but it does get a bit much when they are all together.

St Joseph's church in Le Havre
Built to remind you of a lighthouse, since this is a port city.

Brick patterns on the outside!  Le Havre has a cathedral that survived the bombings, but I don't think it is as interesting as St. Joseph's church which was completely rebuilt in the 50s

Stained glass patterns on the inside.

No longer representational

but if you read up on it, there is meaning in the colors, shapes, and placement.

If pictures could do it justice, this photo would be at the top.  Pictures just can't do it in this case.  We stopped by on a bit of a whim but this turned out to be one of my top three spots in all the trip.
