France, all the cathedrals, June 2019

France, all the cathedrals (and churches), June 2019

It feel a little like an assignment, but compare and contrast all the churches and cathedrals that we saw.
Lille
Important church, inconsistent architecture.

Not built early enough to get it done without substantial changes.

Traditional outside

Non-traditional front

More interesting than stained glass for me.

Many niches for the saints

Amiens
Driving school around the corner from the cathedral

Very traditional cathedral, great example of everything you expect.

Intricate carved details

Gorgeous interior columns

All stained glass

Truly ginormous organ

Fancy floors

Le Havre
Totally modern

The light into the church through the stained glass is super lovely.  It changes throughout the day.

Bayeux
I didn't take pics or go in, but did buy one postcard

Rouen
Joan of Arc memorial outside the modern church.

The church is supposed to look a little like flames and also an overturned boat.  It incorporates a few market stands at one end so it was quite busy.

Super funky water spout design.  Reminds me of a dragon?  So kind of an homage to gargoyles?
